What is Graphic Design?

Being in Graphic Design, I have had to learn new and different purposes for things. I have learned of new types of designs and how I can work with them in the world. Also, with what I need to work on myself.

What is graphic design? A form of visual communication used to convey a message or information to an audience. It is a visual representation of an idea relying on the creation, selection, and organization of visual elements.

Why are collaboration skills important? It is important because everyone has to work together to get the job done. If someone has an idea that they can’t do on their own, they can have a graphic designer help solve the visual communications. Then collaborate with another profession to continue the idea in a different area.

Be flexible, nimble, and dynamic in practice. - Be empathetic. These would be by strong skills because I am already a very flexible person in most situations. I am also an empathetic person, so this helps in many situations. With both combined, I would be able to help a lot of people in many different professions to try and get the tasks done.

Be proficient in software. Understand the capabilities of all digital channels/platforms. – Construct written rationales for one’s design solutions that address audiences/users and client goals. For right now these are my weakest skills. I’m currently not the greatest at most software platforms. I also have difficulty with talking in front of audiences. I am hoping in time I will get better with both skills.

Why are ethics in design important to practice? Designers respond to a social need. In advertising you are trying to bring better products and services to people. You must be ethical in your critical and creative thinking to help people for the better.

Motion graphics is something that I am interested in. Being apart of an entertainment profession could be fun and bold. I feel like motion graphics can set the mood for media. It can be happy or sad and really anything in between. Colors, forms, and shapes all play a huge role in that to be able to set the mood.

Illustration design is another profession I am interested in. You can work in many different areas and don’t have to stick with just one main design profession. The flow of being able to do something new everyday is very appealing to me.
